Hobart shared his experience on social media, and someone else chimed in saying they’d had a similar encounter with the same driver in Austin. Same driver, same fake delivery photo. Yeah, this guy was running a one-man operation of fake deliveries!
So, how did the driver manage to pull off this heist? Hobart thinks they used a hacked account on a jailbroken phone to grab a photo of his doorstep from a DoorDash function that shows photos from prior deliveries. Genius, right? I mean, it’s not like they were trying to be subtle or anything.
But, fortunately, DoorDash was onto it. They banned the driver’s account and made sure Hobart was made whole. In a statement to TechCrunch, a DoorDash representative said, “After investigating this incident, our team completely removed the Dasher’s account and ensured the client was made whole. We have zero tolerance for fraud and use a combination of technology and human review to detect and stop bad actors from abusing our platform.”
