    **Vimeo’s Post-Acquisition Layoffs: What’s Really Going On?**

I’ve been following the latest buzz around Vimeo’s acquisition by Bending Spoons, and I have to say, I’m a little stunned by the latest development: layoffs. Yes, you read that right – Vimeo is cutting loose some of its international employees just months after the deal went down.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: what’s the big deal? Layoffs happen, right? Well, not usually this soon after an acquisition, that’s for sure. Bending Spoons did confirm the news, but refused to give us the lowdown on just how many employees are getting the axe. The Verge reported that a “significant portion” of the company’s workforce will be impacted, and even got a LinkedIn post from Vimeo’s former VP of World Model and Artistic to back it up – he was one of the unlucky ones.

So, what’s behind this sudden shift? Honestly, I’m not sure. Vimeo’s been struggling to keep up with YouTube’s dominance in the video-hosting game, and maybe this is just a way to streamline things and focus on the company’s core strengths. On the other hand, Vimeo has been investing heavily in AI, with plans to launch some pretty cool tools in 2023 – AI-powered script-writing and video editing, anyone?

And let’s not forget all the other acquisitions Vimeo has made in recent years. Meetup, Evernote, WeTransfer – the list goes on. It’s hard to keep track of it all, but I’m sure it’s all part of a bigger plan to take on YouTube and the like.

The one thing I do know is that these layoffs will have serious implications for both Vimeo’s employees and the video-hosting industry as a whole. I’ll be keeping an eye on this story and updating you as more news comes in. Stay tuned!
