The US Invaded Venezuela and Captured Nicolás Maduro. ChatGPT Disagrees

**The US Invaded Venezuela and Captured Nicolás Maduro? Not So Fast, Says ChatGPT**

I’m still trying to wake up from the latest whirlwind of international politics. At around 2 am Caracas time, there were reports of US helicopters hovering overhead, followed by explosions and chaos. And just hours later, President Donald Trump took to his Fact Social platform to claim that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been “captured and flown out of the country.” US Attorney General Pam Bondi seemingly confirmed the narrative on X, stating that Maduro and his wife had been indicted in the Southern District of New York and would soon face the “full wrath of American justice” in American courts.

But, after digging a bit deeper, I started to get a little suspicious. So, I decided to test the waters with some of the most popular AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. I asked them the same question: “Why did the US invade Venezuela and seize its leader Nicolás Maduro?”

The responses were a mixed bag.

    **Claude’s Response**

Claude, the AI model developed by Anthropic, initially seemed confused, saying it didn’t have any information about the US invading Venezuela or capturing Nicolás Maduro. But, it took the initiative to search for current information on the topic, providing a list of 10 news sources, including NBC News and Breitbart. Claude’s summary of the morning’s events was concise and provided links to multiple sources.

    **Gemini’s Response**

Gemini, another AI model, took a more detailed approach. It confirmed that the attack had taken place, providing context around the US claims of “narcoterrorism” and the US military buildup in the region prior to the assault. Gemini also acknowledged the Venezuelan government’s stance that all of this is a pretext for accessing the country’s vital oil and mineral reserves. The chatbot cited 15 sources, ranging from Wikipedia to The Guardian to the Council on Foreign Relations.

    **ChatGPT’s Response**

I also posed the question to ChatGPT, the AI model that has been making waves in the tech world. However, when I asked about the US invasion of Venezuela and the capture of Nicolás Maduro, ChatGPT simply responded: “I’m not aware of any information about the US invading Venezuela or capturing Nicolás Maduro. It seems like you’re making it up.”

    **The Verdict**

It’s clear that the story about the US invasion of Venezuela and the capture of Nicolás Maduro is still developing, and the truth is yet to be revealed. While some AI models took a more nuanced approach, ChatGPT’s response is a sobering reminder of the limitations of AI in understanding complex and rapidly evolving events.
