**Tesla Revives Dojo3, a Moonshot Chip Challenge for Space-Based AI Computing**
Hey there, tech enthusiasts! I’ve got some interesting news to share with you. Remember when Tesla put its Dojo AI chip project on hold a few months back? Well, Elon Musk has just dropped a bombshell: Dojo3 is back in the works, but this time, it’s not for Earth-based AI computing as we initially thought. Instead, it’s apparently focused on “space-based AI compute”.
So, what’s the deal? Are we seeing a resurgence of the Dojo effort? According to a recent Twitter query, the timing is tied to Tesla’s in-house chip roadmap. To catch you up, back in March, 20 Dojo employees left to join DensityAI, a new startup founded by former Dojo head, Ganesh Venkataramanan. They claimed that Tesla planned to rely more on Nvidia and other competitors for compute, as well as Samsung for chip manufacturing.
Musk’s tweet suggests that Dojo is still all about creating the most powerful chips on the planet. Engineers, are you up for the challenge? He’s calling on you to send a note to AI_Chips@Tesla.com with three bullet points on the toughest technical hurdles you’ve overcome.
Let’s be real, Musk’s approach often involves floating a moonshot concept that seems far-fetched, only to push it into reality. Only time will tell if Dojo3 will be the next big thing in AI computing – or just another pipedream.
