The latest numbers from Google’s AI chatbot Gemini are staggering – 750 million monthly active users (MAUs) and counting! That’s a 100 million-user jump from the previous quarter, and I have to say, it’s impressive to see this kind of growth.
But what’s behind this surge? For me, it’s all about Gemini 3, which dropped recently. This upgrade offers advanced AI capabilities that provide more in-depth and nuanced responses than its predecessor. I mean, who doesn’t love a good chatbot upgrade, right? And it seems like Google’s continued investment and iteration in AI is paying off.
Another factor driving Gemini’s growth is the introduction of a more affordable plan, Google AI Plus, priced at a reasonable $7.99 per month. This move is expected to appeal to budget-conscious users and drive further growth. As Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, put it, “We’re focused on a free tier and subscriptions and seeing great progress.”
I also wanted to mention that Alphabet’s overall financial performance has seen a significant boost, with the company surpassing $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time. This can be attributed to the growth of its AI division, which is seeing increased demand.
Oh, and did you know that Google has recently launched the latest generation of its TPU AI accelerator chip, called Ironwood, to compete with Nvidia? As the AI landscape continues to evolve, Google’s progress in this space is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Anyway, I’m excited to share that our upcoming TechCrunch event in Boston on June 23, 2026, will be all about the latest advancements in AI and beyond. We’ll be discussing the latest trends and developments, so make sure to mark your calendars!
In the meantime, I just wanted to throw in a fun fact – Gemini’s first-party models are now processing over 10 billion tokens per minute through direct API use, with the Gemini App rising to over 750 million MAUs. Search saw more usage than ever before, with AI continuing to drive an expansionary second. Who knew AI could be so… exciting?
