Hey there, Alexa fans! I hope you’re as excited as I am to dive into the latest updates with Amazon’s Alexa. I know, I know – the new Alexa+ update has been rolling out to more users, and some of you might be wondering how to switch back to the classic Alexa. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
So, what’s the deal with Alexa+? It’s been quietly rolled out to more users who own supported devices, including older Echo models like the first generation Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot, and even the Echo Plus. Additionally, Fireplace TV and Fire tablet users are getting in on the action. But what if you’re not a fan of the new voice or conversational style?
**Going Back to the Original Alexa**
If you’re not loving the new Alexa+, you can easily switch back to the classic voice and experience with a simple voice command. Just say, “Alexa, exit Alexa Plus,” and it’ll revert back to the original voice and style. This works on all supported Echo devices, so you can go back to the way things were.
But don’t worry, you won’t lose any of your core capabilities – you’ll still have access to all the same voice commands and features. I put this to the test myself, and while there are some minor differences, Alexa+ is mostly just an update over the original voice assistant.
**The Truth About Alexa’s Voice**
One thing to note: even if you switch back to the original Alexa, it might not be exactly the same voice you remembered. As one Reddit user so aptly put it, Alexa is trying to “gaslight” you about her original voice. In other words, the voice has likely been tweaked and updated to match the new conversational style of Alexa+, making it sound slightly different than before.
And if you don’t like the default voice of Alexa+, you can try one of the other options – Alexa has four female and four male voices, each with their own unique traits.
**What’s Next?**
So, what happens next? Amazon is currently offering Alexa+ for free to Prime members, but it’ll cost $20 a month once it officially launches for non-Prime users. If you’re not a Prime member, you can still toggle Alexa+ on and off in the app or by voice command.
We got the inside scoop from Amazon’s support team, and while we don’t have an official list of supported devices, we do know that the first generations of Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot, and Echo Plus are all compatible. Fire TV and Fire tablet users, take note!
In the meantime, if you don’t like the new Alexa, you can always go back to the classic voice and experience. Just remember, it won’t be exactly the same – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing either.
