The Next Big Thing in Social Media: UpScrolled Sees Surge in Downloads Following TikTok’s US Takeover

TikTok’s recent US takeover has left many social media users scrambling for alternative platforms. As the app is now majority-owned by a group of non-Chinese buyers, concerns about censorship and political agendas have been raised. Amidst the chaos, a new app named UpScrolled is emerging as a popular choice for those seeking a neutral social media experience.

UpScrolled, founded by Issam Hijazi, is a social network that aims to remain neutral to political agendas. In just a year, it has gained significant traction, now ranking 12th overall in Apple’s App Store and second in the social networking category.

So, what sets UpScrolled apart from the rest? The app combines familiar features from Instagram and X, allowing users to share photos, videos, and text posts, discover new content, and send direct messages. The team behind UpScrolled is committed to building a platform that belongs to the users, not hidden algorithms or external agendas.

According to Hijazi, “We’re building a platform that puts power back into the hands of the people – not the companies. It’s more than just an alternative to Meta, X, or TikTok – it’s a reimagining of what social media should be: a space where creators, communities, and companies thrive independently, with real control, transparency, and accountability.”

Since TikTok’s US takeover, UpScrolled has seen a significant surge in downloads. According to data from Appfigures, the app has seen roughly 41,000 downloads between Thursday and Saturday, accounting for nearly one-third of its lifetime installs. The app has seen a median of about 14,000 daily downloads since Thursday, representing a 2,850% increase in daily downloads.

The surge in downloads comes as no surprise, given the concerns about TikTok’s potential influence on political agendas. TikTok’s updated privacy policy has also raised eyebrows, allowing the app to track users’ GPS coordinates and other information.

For users looking for an alternative, UpScrolled is definitely worth checking out. With its promise to remain neutral and give “every post a fair chance to be seen,” it’s no wonder the app is gaining popularity.

Skylight, another TikTok alternative built on open-source technology, has also seen significant growth, topping over 380,000 sign-ups.

What do you think about UpScrolled and its stance on political agendas? Share your thoughts in the comments!
