The Thrill of Tech: Anduril Brings 5,500 Jobs to Long Beach, California
I’m still reeling from the news that protection tech firm Anduril is expanding its Southern California presence with a massive campus in Long Beach, a city where founder Palmer Luckey grew up. And I’m not the only one – this move could bring a whopping 5,500 new jobs to the area!
The campus, which will span six buildings and 1.18 million square feet, will be a hub for innovation, combining office space and industrial areas dedicated to R&D. The goal is to hire a diverse range of staff, including manufacturing employees, technicians, meeting employees, and engineers across various disciplines, as well as build and test roles, and “lots of people on the logistics side,” according to Luckey.
But what’s really got me stoked is the potential to manufacture autonomous fighter jets that can take off directly from the factory and fly to anywhere the client needs them. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see jets leaving the factory, flying straight into combat? “I think that’s extraordinarily cool,” Luckey said. And I couldn’t agree more!
Anduril has been making autonomous military drones and planes for land, air, and sea. Just last year, they unveiled a fighter jet called Fury, designed to fly autonomously using AI rather than being piloted remotely by a human operator. The AI executes flight plans set by people. The Fury even completed its first test flight in California on October 31.
I’m excited to see what the future holds for Anduril and its innovative projects. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling tech venture!
