**Boycott Alert: Danish Shoppers Flock to Apps that Help Them Avoid American Products**
The rift between the US and Denmark has just gotten a whole lot deeper. In response to the US’s recent threats to take control of Greenland, a Danish territory, European shoppers are rallying against American-made goods. And it’s not just a minor fuss – we’re seeing a full-on boycott in action.
In the midst of this consumer uprising, two mobile apps that help users identify American products and suggest local alternatives have shot to the top of the Danish App Store. We’re talking, of course, about NonUSA and Made O’Meter.
According to Appfigures, NonUSA, in particular, has gone from being the 6th most popular app on Tuesday to the TOP SPOT on Wednesday – a pretty wild rise from its humble beginnings at No. 441 on January 9th. What’s behind this explosive growth? For one, users can simply scan product barcodes to see where their goods are actually made. Easy peasy. But that’s not all – the app also recommends local Danish alternatives, making it a one-stop shop for shop-avoiding shoppers.
The app’s largest markets? Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland – a Nordic alliance that’s clearly united in its distrust of American products. Meanwhile, Made O’Meter, the other popular app, may not have the same massive following (yet), but it’s still the 5th most popular app on the Danish App Store.
Here’s the kicker: combined, the daily downloads for these three apps have SURGED by a whopping 867% (or 9.7x) over the past week alone. Now, while these numbers might seem small compared to the US market, 200,000 downloads per day across all apps on the Danish App Store is a pretty significant phenomenon.
The boycott’s not just about downloads, though – it’s also about real-world action. Shoppers are canceling US holidays and ditching subscriptions to streaming services like Netflix. It’s a movement, folks, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.
