X restricts Grok’s picture era to paying subscribers solely after drawing the world’s ire

**Grok’s Image-Generation Feature Shut Down for Non-Paying Users Amidst Controversy**

I’m shocked to report that Elon Musk’s AI firm has finally taken action to address the controversy surrounding Grok’s image-generation feature on X. The feature, which was previously available to anyone with a daily limit, allowed users to generate and edit photos of anyone – with disastrous consequences. The platform was flooded with thousands of non-consensual, sexualized images of children, celebrities, and even public figures.

The backlash has been intense, with countries like the UK, the European Union, and India weighing in on the issue. Musk himself has publicly denounced the use of Grok to produce such content, promising that the company will enforce its policies against posting illegal content on X. “Anyone using Grok to make illegal content will face the same penalties as if they posted illegal content,” he tweeted.

But what’s even more alarming is that the company only restricted the feature for non-paying users on X, leaving the app itself unaffected. Yeah, that’s right – anyone with the app can still generate and edit images without a subscription. It’s a confusing move, to say the least.

The European Union has called for xAI to preserve all documentation related to the chatbot, while India’s communications ministry has demanded that X make swift changes to prevent the feature from being misused. The UK’s communications watchdog has been in touch with xAI, and I’m guessing they’re not happy about the whole situation.

It’s a relief that Grok’s image-generation feature is no longer available to just anyone, but it’s still unclear what exactly that means for the app. We’ll be keeping an eye on this story and bringing you updates as more information becomes available.
